Uncle Jang Jang Jang

Greetings pillow talkers!

Today I'm gonna blog about the famous Korean Restaurant Uncle Jang!

Uncle Jang's signature dish is Dak-Galbi. It's actually the only dish I had there but their Dak-Galbi is so yummy that I never consider their side dishes!

They have a few branches like in Puchong and in Solaris Hartamas. Recently they opened a new branch in Kota Damansara (opposite Pappa Rich and the address is at the end of the post)! Speaking of convenient! Since I'm always around the area, I can get my Uncle Jang fix more often! Plus I like this branch better because the ventilation is way better! Dak-Galbi is a Korean dish made on a sizzling plate so when there's no proper ventilation, it get stuffy really fast.

365 DAYS OPEN!

Dak-Galbi has a very interesting flavour. There is no replicating that taste in other Korean restaurants. Dak-Galbi is made either spicy or non-spicy. WARNING! The spicy level is not to be underestimated. Please do not order spicy, only to end up not being able to eat anything. I learnt this lesson the hard way. The acceptable mix for me is 2 parts non-spicy and one part spicy. No more than that! If you go in a small group then, you would need to meet their minimum order of two portions. In this case, the mix is one part non-spicy and one part spicy.

Dak-Galbi is a chicken dish, served with cabbage, rice cake and sweet potato. Once you placed an order, their staff will cook it instantly in front of you.

If you want more of certain things, you can order them as add-ons to the Dak-Galbi. Some common add-ons are noodles, rice cakes and cheese. I like to add more rice cakes and noodles to my Dak-Galbi. I super love the rice cakes here! Its chewy texture is enhanced after it has been sizzled. Take note that if you want to order add-ons, you need to order them at the beginning! Else the flavour may not mix as well. Make good choices!

However, I find the way they clean the sizzling plate a tad disgusting. The burnt ingredients sticking to the sizzling plate is loosened with water and is scraped off. It's quite unsightly but not to the extent of ruining your appetite. For those with weak stomachs, don't look!

Oh here are some tips from a seasoned Uncle Jang goer!
1. Keep frying the Dak-Galbi even after turning off the gas. If you don't, it will burn and get stuck to the sizzling plate.
2. Wear the bright red bibs provided. They are supposed to protect your outfit from the sauce that may 'jump' out of the sizzling plate. Sadly, the bib only covers your chest. Your arms are still exposed! So be sure to keep your distance when the staff is cooking the Dak-Galbi. It's not very hot but it will still be slightly painful.
3. Don't bother showering before going Uncle Jang. YOU WILL STINK. As in you will 110% need to shower after eating here, or risk being suffocated by your own stench!
4. The floor is kind of slippery so be extra careful when walking! Else you may glide a little and kiss the ground with your butt!

Overall, not too pricey, taste delicious and something special!

Well this is the end of my Uncle Jang post! Don't be deceived by the pictures if you've never been there before. It may look like a pile of unappetising red stuff but I assure you that it tastes much better than it looks! And for people who went before, happy craving! ♡

Take care and bye~
